When a furniture buyer receives a recliner sample, it may look like the final product.
From the factory side, however, there is still a lot of work before mass production can begin.

✔ 1. Confirm the Basic Specification
The first step is to confirm exactly what has been approved. This can include:
- Dimensions
- Upholstery
- Color
- Reclining function
- Motor configuration

Small details matter because a difference in one component can affect the final production.
✔ 2. Review the Sample
After the sample is completed, the product needs to be checked from different perspectives. We look at:
- Overall appearance
- Stitching
- Cushioning
- Reclining movement

- Upholstery fitting
The purpose is not simply to make the chair look good. It needs to work consistently.
✔ 3. Confirm Materials
Once the sample is approved, the material list becomes particularly important. The factory needs to know exactly which:
- Fabric
- Foam
- Frame components
- Springs
- Motors
- Hardware
- Electrical components
will be used for production. This reduces unnecessary changes during manufacturing.
✔ 4. Prepare Production Information
The approved sample needs to be translated into production information. Depending on the product, this may include:
- Technical drawings
- Cutting information
- Sewing specifications
- Assembly instructions
- Component lists
- Quality inspection points
This is where a prototype becomes a repeatable product.
✔ 5. Pre-Production Inspection
Before full production, the first production units should be checked against the approved sample. This is especially useful for OEM and ODM projects. The purpose is to make sure that the production version still matches the approved design.
✔ 6. Production Quality Control
During production, quality checks should not happen only at the end. Different stages can require different inspections. For example:
Frame → Upholstery → Assembly → Function → Final Inspection
A problem discovered early is generally easier to correct than one discovered after the whole batch has been completed.
✔ 7. Final Inspection and Packing
Before shipment, finished products are checked again. Depending on the order, inspection can include:
- Appearance
- Dimensions
- Function
- Upholstery
- Packaging
- Accessories
- Labels
The finished cartons then need to be prepared for transportation.
Why This Process Matters
From the buyer’s perspective, the sample is a reference. From the factory’s perspective, the challenge is making sure that hundreds or thousands of units can follow the same reference. That is why communication between the buyer and manufacturer is important throughout the development process.
